Lowest cost LED light bulbs from Wickes
This may seem like an odd post, but I am always astonished at the price of light bulbs. I refurbished a house earlier this year and bought some from the market, though Aldi had a Specialbuy where they were cheaper at that same time….anyway, light bulbs cost a bloomin’ fortune.
So when I saw this Wickes offer I just had to share. Wickes has launched 30 new, own-brand LED and halogen light bulbs – with prices starting from just £1.99 for the 5W LED GU10. Wickes’ new range is an affordable bulb at one of the lowest prices available in the UK compared to B&Q, Homebase, Screwfix, Argos, Ikea and Amazon.
So why LED? Well LED light bulbs use less energy and last longer than traditional halogen bulbs, cut energy wastage by three quarters, and …

Home security on a budget
A neighbour was recently burgled and a friend has has their car stolen off his drive, so security has been top of my mind, and I’ve been looking for ways to up my home security.
Firstly invest in decent locks for both windows and doors. Then, I have been thinking lights, camera, action, so plenty of lighting to reveal any would be burglars, some sort of recording device and anything to deter a criminal in the first place. Anyway, here is my list of security ideas on a budget:
1. CCTV
I started off thinking about a CCTV camera and like the look of this D-Link camera at PC World for £169.99. I have a £20 off voucher for a customer complaint, but it’s still pricey, so I have considered fake CCTV cameras. Check out …

Where to buy original article on a budget
I love original art, but the pieces I have didn’t come cheap. For example, I won a laptop and sold it to fund my two favourite pictures and have my own photography framed, and a lot of bare walls.
Bare walls cost a lot to fill, you see. While Ikea does some reasonable pictures, they aren’t originals. It’s nice to tell a story behind a picture and there’s always a story behind a piece of original art.
Somewhere where you can buy original art where every painting is less than £100 is the Original Art Under £100 website. That doesn’t mean that everything is £99. They have price brackets and IMHO, the images became more buyable if they are over £26.
A husband and wife team launched the business which makes money by charging artists …
