Nabru’s self assembly sofas – bargain and fit into small spaces
A 29 inch door frame is unfortunately not wide enough for today’s big fat sofas, so I’ve been trying to work out how to replace the two rather dated burgandy shenille sofas that sit proudly in my refurbishment project house.
I have looked at re-upolstery, but even for two small sofas, firms are quoting over a grand; I have looked at sofa beds and futons, but they don’t really project the look I want – I would like to maximise rental income, and futons won’t do that for the owners.
We have thought about removing a window to get the sofas through, but the timing of delivery would have to be really precise and we’d have to pay for the removal and return of the window. I have found some really nice sofa beds on …

My furniture bargains from eBay
It’s an exciting time for me at the moment, as I am doing a refurb project on the side, so as well as my day job and kids, I am updating a house for rental. The house has been neglected for about 30 years, so the decor is very dated and the furniture is falling apart.
The cost of the refurb is high as a lot of building work needs to be done. I am avoiding too many shortcuts, but have persuaded the builder to repaint the kitchen cupboard doors rather than fit new doors, so that’s saving a grand. Will post before and after pics when I have them.
We are also repainting the house, removing an old bar that the previous owners put in, plastering and retiling, among the many other tasks we …

The countdown to Christmas has officially begun. Christmas tree lights are being switched on, radio stations are playing our favourite festive songs, and local supermarkets are stocking their aisles with tasty turkeys and mouthwatering mince pies. But while we fuss over our food preparations and Christmas decorations, it’s easy to forget that we are using up precious (and expensive) energy.

Winter is coming – tips on reducing energy bills
Winter is coming. I even brought my Christmas cardy out and my sheepskin slippers. I think we’re all a bit worried heating bills this winter, so now is the time to be preparing our homes to keep bills down.
Mr Bargain Hunter bought us a tado device earlier this year which helps us control heating remotely, but there are definitely less techy ways to reduce heating bills. Especially as I am one of more than ¾ of Brits worried about bills going up.*
Fit radiator reflectors
I have been using these for a while but not behind all radiators due expense and faff – Mr BH uses insulating tape to stick them to the wall! So imagine my excitement when Radflek sent me their Radiator reflectors. They reflect 95 per cent of wasted heat back …

Giveaway – free storage for a month with Spaceways
I recently wrote about Spaceways – a service that helps people save time, money and space. I wondered if this might be of interest for a moving saving feature or a feature on ways to solve the lack of space in London?
For only £6 a month, SpaceWays provides customers with large heavyduty boxes and a free pickup service at a time you choose.
This eliminates the hassle of bringing items to self-storage warehouses and means you don’t need to rent a van or car. When you want your boxes or a particular box back, simply go online and any number of boxes will be returned for a flat fee of £19.
I’ve teamed up with the nice people at Spaceways to give away three lots of free storage – each box is 67 litre …

Value cleaning products
I HATE cleaning but must admit that my house isn’t dirty. The luxury of a lady who does for me two hours a week is a major factor in this.
She really is a luxury for me, but I figure that she’s equivalent to the price of five fancy coffees a week. As I don’t drink coffee or buy my lunch at sandwich shops or coffee shops, she is my treat and IMHO a bargain for me.
Unfortunately, two hours a week isn’t enough to keep my abode spic and span, so I am always looking for good value cleaning products. I tried HOME2HOME and have still not finished the hand wash or cleaner that I bought in 5 litre bottles a year back, so the price was definitely right. They don’t sell everything I …
