Kids get bike savvy with free Halfords workship this Easter
What with holidays just around the corner, if you’re looking for something to do, maybe this free bike workshop will appeal. This Easter, Halfords is helping kids get bike savvy by hosting entry-level bike workshops for children, worth £10 per head, at 420 of its stores nationwide, each Wednesday of the school Easter holidays.
Over 48,000 children and parents have benefitted from this free-of-charge workshop that teaches 7-11 year-olds the basics of things to check on their bike. The session is ideal for kids who have little to no experience of bike maintenance and repair.
The workshop shows children – and their parents – the key things to check on a bike as well as advice on how to keep safe. The session provides a perfect starting point for children to go back home and, …

10 ideas for February half term family days out
The February half term is fast approaching, and the panic of keeping the kids occupied for the week is already setting in. Our childcare costs are upwards of £50 per day, so the idea of keeping the kids at home is attractive, however, it’s also a little boring, so a day out is a must.
At the mo, there are cereal packs with one adult free circulating or there’s this useful list from AttractionTix.co.uk of 10 places to go this half term. The team there reckon that many of their deals are cheaper than the tickets that you can on the day or via the attractions website. Ripleys and the Shard are especially great as the tickets are usually £18.
Many of the attractions are in London, but with cheap rail offers and accommodation via …

Campaign to make school uniform more affordable
When it comes to school uniforms striking that all too precarious balance between quality and price can be quite tricky so imagine my surprise when I stumbled across this petition from the Schoolwear Association.
This year the Schoolwear Association are proposing to make school uniform more affordable for UK parents by way of a school uniform voucher scheme. If successful, the petition will work in a similar way to the UK Childcare Vouchers which are currently in effect. Parents will give up a small portion of their salary in exchange for school uniform vouchers which will not only be tax exempt but will also be redeemable at all school uniform stockist.
I think this is great news as it means school uniform will no longer be a burden for us parents and any scheme which …

Boris and the Dumb Skulls
In my Christmas gift round-up recently, I mentioned the above childrens’ fantasy book and got hold of a copy, and asked my 10 year old to review it. He said that he would recommend it to a 6 or 7 year old who is a good reader or under 10s with their parents if they need help reading. I tend to disagree with him as I think you’d have to be a very, very good 6 or 7 year old reader to finish this book alone. He read it in around an hour session – it’s 36 pages of text and 36 pages of images.
His favourite character was Boris, the pet skull. He belongs to a witch called Griselda who keeps Boris and dim dwarves Dumb Skulls captive. They have enough of this and …

Trick or treat at Aldi this Halloween
I love Halloween and following my Tesco Halloween post, I was thrilled to see that Aldi has a range too…hitting stores today.
I am a kind of person who loves sparkly things and last December I bought some soft glow berry lights from John Lewis. So imagine my delight when I was sent a sample of the battery powered indoor range at Aldi. They are £4.99 and are perfect to decorate my front door (inside only) on 31 October. In orange and a soft purple…very exciting and really pretty.
As well as pretty lights, the whole family can be kitted out in ghoulish gear. Aldi’s Children’s Dressing-Up Set will make even the cutest of kiddies fearsome this Halloween. For only £3.99, you can pick up a Vampire, Skeleton, Witch or Baterella costume, suitable for ages …

Money off Merlin attractions
You have a month left to spend your 50% off entry for one adult or child at a Merlin attraction if you pick up the Walkers crisp packet promotion. If there are any packs still floating around, just buy a standard or grab bag with packs including voucher for half price entry. If you missed the promotion, there are plenty more around if you take a look on the side of cereal packets – currently there’s a grown ups grow free on Kelloggs – and if you are under time pressure, you can also take a look on eBay. You can even spend your Nectar points on an annual Merlin pass. Merlin has 27 top attractions, including Legoland, Thorpe Park and Alton Towers. We went to Legoland recently and we would have paid over £100… -

Lift sharing for busy parents – Kiddidrop.com
Next week we’re back to school, and one new service that attracted my attention was a lift sharing service for kids – www.kiddidrop.com. Now I know parents who stick their kids on the school bus as it’s cheaper than childcare. I myself have been asked to take four other children to school and it’s a pain, so having a lift share where everyone benefits is a great idea. Here’s some more information.
What is Kiddidrop.com?
Kiddidrop.com is an introductory service that matches registered parents from the same area who are looking to share the school drop off and pick up, helping ease the school run for both them and their child.
