GoSend – buy items from the States tax-free and with up to 80% less shipping fees
The US has traditionally held a certain appeal for shopping, with its big-name department stores and generally cheaper price tags than here in the UK. However, those that don’t have the luxury of visiting New York have by now more than likely found that either their favourite shop doesn’t ship to the UK (only 1% of retailers bother shipping products outside of the States) or experienced just how off-putting expensive online shipping costs can be.
So I’d like to introduce GoSend! The latest shopping and shipping service, allows bargain hunters to visit online US retailers, shop to their hearts delight and avoid issues involved with UK shipping, by giving users their own individual US postal address.
Once users checkout they just need to enter their unique GoSend US locker address (based within the …

Does Aldi sell premium wine?
I’m a big wine fan and, although I am more partial to a juicy robust red, I can drink both white and red wine equally. So, when Aldi introduced ‘The Exquisite Collection’, a premium range of wines at far from premium prices, I was happy to try one of each.
The white wine I tried was the Gavi, priced at £5.49 (75cl). Produced from the Cortese grapes grown around the town of Gavi in Italy – hence its name – this wine is described as “refreshing and aromatic boasting flavours of tangy lemon, weighty fruit and subtle waxy nuttiness”.
I found it to be as sharp and fruity as promised with a lovely subtle nutty flavoured finish that I really enjoyed – similar to sweet almond, rather than peanut. The initial two sips …

Christmas Savings Card – budgeting tool idea
So we have less than 80 days to Christmas and I’m already thinking about Xmas lunch and gift ideas, so time to set some money aside.
Today I heard about the Asda Money Christmas Savers Card, which acts as a saving tool for Asda customers to prepare for the cost of Christmas. Asda customers can add money onto their card at the checkout each time they shop.
The maximum amount customers are able to load onto their cards is £144. To reward customers for their savings Asda pays a bonus, or interest, onto the card which can be spent however the customer wishes either at Christmas or in the New Year in store. It’s not much, but as a rival says, Every Little Helps:
- For saving £144 – the customer is awarded £6
- For saving

How to avoid paying 5p for a plastic bag
As of 5 October all supermarket plastic bags will cost 5p, even though small ones you get from M&S. Now what’s 5p between friends? Well actually quiet a lot when you think about how that amount mounts up over the year.
There are exceptions, like smaller retailers don’t have to charge, and bags that you get fish or medicine in should be free!
So what is a poor shopper to do to avoid the charge:
Invest in a bag for life
I’ve had my Tesco hessian bags and Tchibo bags for years – they are such good quality. My Sainsburys bags have ripped at the seams, so do check the quality of any bag you buy.
Carry plastic bags with you
I take one with me in my handbag, and always have lots in …

New free food sharing app – OLIO
I recently wrote about what to do with things you don’t want anymore, so was excited to hear about OLIO, a new free food sharing app enabling neighbours to connect with each other and with local shops and cafes so that good food can be shared, not thrown away.
The company’s mission is to enable people to unlock the value of food that is wasted in the home and local community – over £12.5 billion of edible food is binned every year in the UK alone!
The team is trying to change the way people think about food and their behaviour and routines around food. It’s a tall order but they’ve already had over 700 food items change hands since they launched in July in a small corner of North London. On Monday, …
