Asda online shopping – a review
I wanted to try out a few different online grocery shopping experiences and now it’s Asda’s turn. I have booked my £2.50 delivery at Sunday lunchtime for 2 – 4 pm on Monday.
Asda states that it has over 1,000 discounted items so I was keen to get my bargain grocery shopping underway. I ordered over £133 worth of shopping across 82 items. I managed to buy about £33 on offers, the rest of my shop was full price.
Here’s what I thought of the experience.
Positive
1. More expensive replacements were provided when an item wasn’t available.
2. They have nice quality and variety across their own ranges.
3. Fantastic delivery slot availability.
Negative
1. Alphabetically arranged items when I shoppped on my mobile, not sure if that works, as I saw Chinese, then …

Online grocery shopping experience – Morrisons
I’ve been a bit unwell since December and have had to resort to online shopping. I have used Tesco for a while and thought that as Morrisons came out top in my latest online grocery shopping comparison (on paper), I had better try it out in person. Here are the good and bad points:
Good things about shopping at Morrisons online
1. I seemed to get more value for money
My shop was 75 items and cost just over £100, whereas 74 items from Tesco were £173 just before Xmas with lots of vouchers. I know that I haven’t done a like for like comparison, but I pretty much buy the same things every week, so the shop was cheaper.
2. There were lots of discounted products clearly visible
Right up front on the site, …

Shop locally and save
We are all drawn to the supermarkets at Christmas, pushing our trollies around the aisles in a daze and responding to each offer and promotion without a second thought. However, what so many of us don’t realise is that by shopping locally, we could actually save a whole heap on our food shop. Despite the supermarket’s best efforts to undercut, it is in the aisles of your local greengrocers, butchers or farm shop that you will find a true bargain, but without a BOGOF sign in sight. Seasonal fruit and veg in particular will be much cheaper in the greengrocer and because you’ll be buying the exact amount you need (rather than a poly-wrapped bag) you’ll not only save money, but prevent more packaging waste and food waste. Your butcher will be able to advise… -

List of international online retailers shipping free to the UK
After all the Black Friday and Cyber Monday mayhem I came across a site worth mentioning – www.myinternationalshopping.com contains a directory off all the international online retailers who offer free shipping to the UK. Buying from sites in the US, Hong Kong and Europe can save you up to 40% on UK prices.
For many stores the last order date for Christmas delivery is 10thDecember so you need to get your skates on, although many US retailers offer a free upgrade to express shipping on the run up to Christmas which extends final order dates to around 18thDecember!
A report commissioned by Paypal last year estimated that there will be 18.5 million cross border shoppers in the UK by 2018 spending up to £18 billion a year so it’s definitely a growing money saving trend!…

Aldi’s Ski range – in stores from 4th December
Aldi will be launching its brand new Ski range on 4th December, available nationwide.
With Adult’s salopettes and jackets available from £16.99, Children’s Ski Wear (jackets & aalopettes combination) from £14.99 and a wide variety of other items from merino base layers, silk socks and infant snowsuits, you can kit out the entire family without breaking the bank. I can vouch for this as have bought ski gear from Aldi before…and it’s good.
The range consists of two separate tiers of clothing; both an entry level range and a Pro range, as well a whole host of accessories such a gloves, goggles, helmets and hand-warmers.
The Aldi Pro range features an improved specification to rival big-brand names but without the big-brand price tag. From a Pro Jacket and Salopettes (£34.99 and £29.99) to a Pro …

Best grocery supermarket Click and Collect Service
Which grocers has the handiest Click & Collect service? I did some investigating and here’s what I found.
I’m very busy and out a lot this week, but am hosting a party so need to pick up food. While, I am excited to think that soon we’ll be able to pick up lots of items from a corner shop, or a nearby locker rather than having to schlep to a supermarket, I’ve investigated which grocer would accommodate me the best this week with its Click and Collect service….. here are the findings of my comparison:
Price
Asda, Tesco, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s* all offer free click and collect services.
Charges can apply for tube station pick ups though, for example, £1.50 for Asda.
* Sainsbury’s does not offer Click and Collect for groceries :-(.

Mrs Bargain Hunter’s visit to Asda
My nearest Asda was seven miles away until last week, so I thought I’d take a look at the new store which is a mere three miles away now, and I was impressed.
I came out with my weekly shop, clothes, shoes and bits and pieces for the house for less than £150.
I was particularly impressed with the George range of clothes. I know they have been around for ages, but Asda has never really been accessible to me, so I was thrilled to pick up men’s jeans at £6 a pop – great for every day, gardening etc, older boys sleeveless school shirts at £5 for two, a couple of kids t-shirts at £4 each, £7 kids sweatshirt and £8 canvas pumps.
I am not sure if Asda is classed as a discount …

My visit to The Works
Full of discounted books, stationery, art supplies and more, The Works is a veritable treasure trove.
There are 300 stores in the UK and I must admit the first time I visited one, I thought it was going to be full of tonnes of cheap tat. I was actually put off going in as I expected to see plastic buckets and mop heads next to toilet rolls and dusters.
However, I have braved the store since and love it. I have bought small toys for party bag gifts, art pencils, quirky gifts, coloured card, an easel, stocking fillers and card making kits there.
The Works says it is now marketed as Britain’s leading discount store and they have very high stock turnover due to high demand from consumers.
I find that for basic art supplies, …

Aldi goes large – new plus size range of women’s clothes in store
With the average dress size now 16, Aldi is also trying to muscle in on the growing (no pun intended) plus size market with its announcement today of a range for women wearing 16 – 30 clothes.
The range focuses on casual clothing and is in store from today. They’ve got essential wear, wide fitting loafers, tights and undies. I do buy Aldi clothes and they are usually a hit, especially thermals for skiing, gloves and accessories, so I’d be happy to seem them succeed with this range of clothing. Here is some of the range:
Shorty PJs, £8.99 (Sizes: 18-28)
Made from comfy cotton, these cool Shorty PJs come with a top and shorts and are available in two fun designs, so you can head to bed feeling cool and looking fabulous.
