Online poundshops – Poundshop.com vs Hereforapound.com a comparison
I recently compared online supermarkets, so I thought I would take a look at the new online pound shops. At the beginning of February, there was a media buzz around the new online discount stores. The major contenders were Poundshop.com, Hereforapound.com and Pound Panda. Now Pound Panda seems to have already exited the ring and its site is still down, so I decided to focus on the other two. My summary of pros and cons and my first impressions are below.
I have to admit that with two Pound Land shops within walking distance of my house (I am really lucky ;-)), I am not that tempted to shop online, however, for those that have to drive into town or want to buy a stack of stuff and use public transport, or for those …

Best supermarket for online grocery shopping – a comparison
From prices, delivery costs to minimum order value and customer service, which online grocery store wins my comparison?
You may know that I shop at Aldi and supplement that shop with Co-operative or Morrisons, but sometimes I have a lot on and need to save time, so I go online.
I haven’t shopped online since September 2013 for groceries, so I thought I would check out what’s new and have put my research here in my attempt to see which is the best online grocery store on paper. I looked at Asda, Ocado, Sainsbury’s and Tesco. I thought about adding Waitrose but they do have a reputation for being expensive, and after five days their customer service hadn’t got back to me about my online grocery queries, so I left them out.
Here are my …

Dispatches – The Secret of the Discount Stores – are they too good to be true?
Tonight I watched the Channel 4 programme on discount stores called The Secrets of the Discount stores, and it was interesting viewing.
Here’s my recap for those of you who may have missed it. Just to warn you, it did feel like a TK Maxx bashing exercise. As you may know, I am very fond of that store and will still be going there!
According to the programme, with the average Brit earning less than £450 a week and the recession biting, stores like TK Maxx are growing, with slogans such as Big Labels This Season, Always up to 60% less and this season’s trend.
A typical TK MAxx store holds 50,000 items and the presenter, Harry Wallop, showed items like a Jean Paul Gaultier mac for £350 down from £2,680. He examined how TK …

Free cake and hot drink from John Lewis – new loyalty card
Got my John Lewis loyalty card and welcome pack today after applying a week ago. Guess I’ll have to find room for it with my other loyalty cards.
I got free cake and hot drink vouchers from December 2013 to June 2014. I went with my friend and we used our vouchers to save over £11 for a carrot cake, Victoria sponge and two hot drinks.
I just need to produce the card when I go into the shop and if I shop online, the card is already linked to my online account. If I shop on the phone, I just need to give them the number on the back.

Winter woolies from Primark
I went for a wonder around a big town last week and ended up in Primark.
I bought some Christmas themed cardies, jumpers and also some wool dresses from Primark. They were £14 each apart from the cream dress at £12. My cardigan above is already a firm favourite this winter, and other items are below.
Couldn’t go wrong as this sort of stuff is £30 – £40 each piece in John Lewis, so I got six pieces for the price of two…I’ll be nice and toasty warm over this winter, and if I may be so bold, looking right on trend. Click on the images to see them full size.
I also bought some gorgeous Japanese thermal vests for the kids at £5 each, really feel like silk as so soft, and some single …

TK Maxx definitely won’t max out your credit card
What do you do when it is not sale season and you feel the need to shop, but without spending loads on a new outfit? Discount clothing stores such as TK Maxx are always a good bet to grab a fashion bargain, whatever time of year it is.
The TK Maxx discount store in particular is a favourite for fashion and price-savvy shoppers thanks to it offering big, designer labels and one-off items at up to 60 per cent discount. So, new season designer staples such as a Michael Kors studded jumper, normally priced from £145, cost you more like £87 while classic pieces – nay essentials – like Dolce & Gabbana’s Pony Skin Tote Bag, costing upwards of £1,000 brand new, can be snapped up from as little as £600, saving over £400.

My love for Poundland
When I was a young child my mother would take me around this horrid shop in town and along to the markets. Neither the shop nor the markets exist any more, instead car parks and Iceland have taken their place.
The horrid shop was managed by a ghastly and rude man who obviously thought that we were going to steal his precious trashy products. My mother took me as she must have inherited the bargain gene which I also have. She would look for cheap scourers and kitchen goods, biscuits and beans. I would follow behind in the hope that maybe I would get a nice ribbon or sweet.
Now today, that shop and market have morphed into Poundland for me. My secret pleasure. The town I live in is fairly nice with barber jackets …
