Senior railcard for £26.50
There are many advantages to being older, and one of these is the fantastic discounts available to pensioners. Aside from a free bus pass, it is also possible to invest in a Railcard, which will present large savings to those travelling by train. Not only this, but we have partnered with Senior Railcard in order to provide our customers with a further 15% discount on the cost of the railcard itself. The fab folks at Age Mobility, the firm that offers stairlifts, chairs and aids for baths and showers, let me know about this great offer.
A rail card gives 1/3 off rail fares and with this discount, holders get to save more of their pensions or maybe you do if you are giving it as a gift for the older people in your lives. …

How to save money on winter sun or a trip to New York
It’s getting cold isn’t it? Mr Bargain Hunter has booked us a break just after Christmas, and he did it a while ago, but for those of you who haven’t got around to it, here are some tips. Now I love New York but I also love sunshine, so either visiting the US in the cold or finding somewhere warm would make me happy.
Firstly, let’s start with my favourite city ever, New York.
Tips for getting to NY cheaply over Christmas
Book your flights and hotels separately
Whilst all-inclusive packages will seem extremely appealing when planning your fairytale in New York, to reduce costs book your flights and hotels separately. Booking flights as far in advance as possible, when airlines have available seats, gives the most access to cheaper flights. Take a look at …

Can I go up Big Ben for free?
Apparently yes! I never knew that I could, but as a UK resident, I can go on a tour of Big Ben and the Elizabeth Tower. These are free of charge, but must be sponsored by a Member of Parliament (MP) or a Member of the House of Lords, so I have written a letter to my local MP to get a tour sorted for me and my family.
What does the tour cover?
The Elizabeth Tower is the famous clock tower and more often referred to as ‘Big Ben’, which is in fact the nickname of the Great Bell housed within the Elizabeth Tower.
A guided tour up 334 stone spiral steps takes you to the top of Elizabeth Tower to hear Big Ben strike the hour. As well as seeing a spectacular view …

Be your own guide – New Cities Talking app
I’m always looking for money saving apps, and here’s one that helps you to get to know a new town inexpensively and not be restricted to an organised tour.
The app saves travellers money on guide books and expensive guided tours when going to a new city. The app is free to download and then each tour is £4.99 within the app. Using your phone’s GPS means that the app doesn’t use any data while you are using it (as long as the tour itself was downloaded over WiFi) which means there are no costly data charges to using the app.
Each tour is voiced by a local celebrity and written by a local author – for example the London Tour was written by Kathy Lette and voiced by Christopher Biggins.
Using the app means …

Glamping in a Wigwam? A Great Last Minute School holiday break for the family
My mates went to Bestival and it sounded awesome, but it meant camping….now that’s not for me. I’m a city girl through and through. However, if you are seeking a last minute break for the remaining weeks of the summer holidays, then you could go for a memorable ‘glamping’ trip.
In the forth of my series on last minute breaks for the school holidays, I’m going to be looking at ‘glamping’, for the likes of me and anyone else who would run a mile from ground sheets, tent pegs and guy ropes, yet would still like to enjoy an outdoors escape with the family.
When I clicked on www.Wigwamholidays.com, I found lots of different ‘glamping’ options at a wide range of UK locations, from the north of Scotland right down to Cornwall.

New app for booking bargain holiday homes
In the third of my last minute travel ideas for the summer holidays, I thought I’d take a look at holidays from a holiday home owner’s point of view, and see how they can offer discounts direct to consumers.
If you own a holiday home, you’ll surely hate to see it empty, particularly during the peak summer months. Many are more than happy to offer huge last minute discounts in order to fill up their calendar.
Snaptrip is a new marketplace that helps owners to offers discounts of up to 50% on the largest collection of self-catered properties in the UK. Which is great for spontaneous holidaymakers!
By partnering with both individual owners and some of the biggest property management agencies in the country, Snaptrip has made searching for your dream cottage a quick and …

Tips for finding bargain last minute breaks in school holidays
If you still haven’t booked your trip for the school holidays, there’s no need to panic. In fact, you may have done yourself a favour by waiting until the last minute, because there are quite often much cheaper deals to be had.
In the second of my series on finding cheaper last minute breaks in the school holidays, I thought I’d find out what the experts advise.
I got in touch with Chris Clarkson, the Managing Director of online travel agency www.sunshine.co.uk, and he’s got some interesting advice, which I’m sharing here.
Empty rooms
Hotels will want to fill up their empty rooms, so prices will often be lower in comparison to if you’d have looked to book in advance, when they didn’t know what demand would be like. Other ways in which you …

A camping experience like no other – Camping in Croatia
As part of a short series on bargain last minute holidays, I’d thought I’d start of with something a little different. Camping is the perfect, fun alternative to a pricey hotel stay, particularly for families with a sense of adventure!
How about somewhere off the beaten track for a camping experience that’s different to the usual med destinations? Croatia has the perfect climate for camping and offers spectacular coastline and clear blue waters of Istria. I have included details of ArenaTurist’s camping offering, with four recommended campsites below.
Prices for camping lots and mobile homes start from just £7 per unit, per night and £5 per person, per night. Plus, there is a fantastic deal on for families – Kids go free in 2015 with a 5 night stay.
Home to Pula, the charming capital …

New travel app which makes life easier when you’re on the move
Now that the school holidays have started many of you will be jetting off on a summer holiday. There are plenty of apps on your mobile that aim to make your travels smoother whilst you’re mobile.
Whether it’s an app that saves you money, helps you pack, creates a holiday itinerary for you, or keeps all of your travel documents in one place, they all aim to help travellers improve their overall experience.
I just stumbled across a great app which will help you save time and money. The new Visa Travel Tools app gives you bundles of useful information such as the local weather forecast, a handy ATM locator and an easy-to-use currency converter so I can quickly find out how much my purchase actually costs in my home currency.
The exciting part is …
