Can you book your next holiday with just a £10 deposit?
I’ve just paid for my holiday – ouch…we’re going in six weeks time. The deposit was hefty and I paid that back in January. So as I posted my holiday payment cheque, it got me thinking, and I wondered if there was a way you could book your dream holiday, but without paying for so much up front for it.
I wondered what if I could pay a small deposit of £10, rather than a huge lump sum or even a 10% (or more) deposit, which is normally a large amount, especially if it’s a family holiday.
Floridatix.com‘s ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ policy allows you to book easily, without having to commit your full holiday sum as soon as your book. Using the site to book a trip, customers can secure tickets for £10, …

London Shard views on a budget
The London Shard is the tallest building in Europe, so I totally understand the allure of going to the top.
I tried my best to find discounted Shard tickets and recalled Attractiontix running an offer during February half term for £1 children tickets but haven’t seen that offer again. The cheapest way to go up to the top was to buy tickets in advance at £24.95 per adult and £18.95 per child…they don’t even do family tickets!
You are allocated a time slot and are shown to a high speed lift which takes you to the top. Anyway once up at the very top (72nd floor) it is amazing. You stand at the “broken bit” at the top and it really exciting to be so high, especially in a clear day. I saw lots of …

Halfords offers trade in on old bikes
Need a new bike, but want to sell your old one? Or need to simply just get rid of your old bike while getting a new one? Want to donate your bike to a good cause?
Well Halfords can probably help. They’ve teamed up with Olympic champion Victoria Pendleton to launch a national bike trade-in event for charity campaign.
Customers can donate unwanted bikes at any of Halfords’ 460 stores between Thursday, 16 and Monday, 20 April to receive 10% off a new bike – or simply donate a bike that is no longer needed. Bikes are then recycled and donated to communities in Africa to provide much needed transport.
Adult bikes are the most needed, but all bikes that are in a reasonable condition, including kids’ bikes, will be accepted provided they are complete …

10 ideas for February half term family days out
The February half term is fast approaching, and the panic of keeping the kids occupied for the week is already setting in. Our childcare costs are upwards of £50 per day, so the idea of keeping the kids at home is attractive, however, it’s also a little boring, so a day out is a must.
At the mo, there are cereal packs with one adult free circulating or there’s this useful list from AttractionTix.co.uk of 10 places to go this half term. The team there reckon that many of their deals are cheaper than the tickets that you can on the day or via the attractions website. Ripleys and the Shard are especially great as the tickets are usually £18.
Many of the attractions are in London, but with cheap rail offers and accommodation via …

What is AirBNB?
I’ve been looking at travelling more this year, but even after cheap flight deals, the price of accommodation puts me off. So I’ve been looking at Airbnb – it’s an online community marketplace that connects people looking to rent their homes with people who are looking for accommodation. Property owners are called hosts who list and rent out their unused spaces, and travelers search for and book accommodation worldwide. The service may have started appealing to budget-conscious tourists, but now even business travelers are using the service. I already offer my parking space through JustPark where strangers park on my drive, so I see the appeal in making money from unused spaces and from a travellers point of view, a cheaper place to sleep than a hotel. Anyway, I’ve done a little bit of digging… -
Free WiFi for York city centre
I thought you might be interested to hear that there is now free WiFi for all residents and visitors of York.
This initiative offers real money saving incentives to those wishing to travel to York, as well as long term saving for those working in the city.
York may be one of the most historic cities in the UK, but it is also fast becoming one of the most digitally connected with free unlimited WiFi now available across large parts of the city centre.
Free WiFi from CityConnect, provided by a company called Pinacl Solutions, can be accessed throughout many areas of the city, including key landmarks such as the historic York Minster, and at all six of the city’s Park & Ride terminals.
From cobbled street The Shambles to the famous York Dungeons, …

How many everyday things do you need to give up to get a flight?
Check out this ‘Holiday Sacrifice Calculator’ which has worked out how many popular every day items to give up to get a return flight to a destination (i.e sacrificing your morning mocha for just two and half weeks and you could be drinking espressos in Italy!).
We gave up takeaway pizza earlier this year and have saved over £500 – we do have the odd cheeky take out once in a while, or it would have been more – so I know that giving up just one thing can save some serious cash. By the looks of it, I could have flown to Italy most weekends this year!
Some samples of what you could save are here and I’ve managed to snag an interesting infographic below too:
1. Sacrificing eighteen takeaway coffees = drinking espresso …
