Save money on fuel and ease the stress of finding an EV charging point this summer

Driving long distances on summer holidays can be a stressful time for everyone, especially families. With petrol stations changing fuel prices frequently, the best price at one station one day may not be the best price the next. It’s even more difficult to know where the cheapest fuel is when driving in unfamiliar places during the summer holidays. It’s a problem many of us are worried about as a recent survey revealed – more than half of drivers (53%) are concerned about rising prices and the cost of filling up their fuel tank.

Summer holiday driving stress can be compounded if you’ve got an EV car – you may be worried about how and when you are going to charge your car on a long journey. The UK’s network of chargers is growing considerably – by approximately 50% between April 2023 and April 2024 – and there are now 59,670 public electric vehicle charging devices installed nationwide. However, with this growing infrastructure comes a new challenge: knowing where the charging points are. Add to that, according to the AA, there is poor signage for existing EV charging points making them hard to find. Navigating all of this for families driving on their summer holidays can be a headache they don’t need.

Luckily there are two free-to-use features in an app that you may already have that can help you with both of these issues. Parking payments provider PayByPhone has launched Fuel Finder and EV Charge Locator to help drivers save money and ease the stress on their long car journeys.

Fuel Finder helps you discover where the cheapest fuel is closest to you, so you can save money on petrol and diesel when you fill your car up. You simply search anywhere in the UK and look for the green pins on the map to find the fuel sites near you. By tapping on the pins you get pricing details, site information, opening hours and more. You can even search by your favourite petrol brand.

EV Charge Locator helps you easily find EV charging points across the UK, helping to calm charging anxiety. After searching, tap on the green pins on the map to discover what the location offers including availability, the connector types, the speed of the charger and price per kWh.

And you don’t have to download yet another app to do this. You probably already have the PayByPhone app on your phone from parking payments.

If you don’t have the PayByPhone app and you want to start searching for the cheapest fuel and nearest EV charging points, download the app from the App Store or Google Play.
